If you’ve ever stayed in a luxury hotel and looked at the bed on your arrival, thinking how stunning and pristine it looks, then why not bring that appearance into your home?
It might seem like it’s a masterful skill to learn, but with just a few simple tips and a couple of accessory items, your bedroom can become as beautifully styled as a 5-star hotel room.
On this page, I’ll show you a simple 5-step process that will transform your bed with a completely unique wow effect.
The best part is that it won’t even feel like a chore once you see how easy it is to achieve such an aesthetic bedroom.

How To Make A Bed Professionally: Our 5-Step Process
With a little bit of planning and a few new accessory pieces, you’ll transform your bedroom in a way that makes your bed take visual center stage.
Step 1: Create A Flawless Foundation
It doesn’t matter whether you have a standard double or king-sized bed frame; what’s more important is to have high-quality sheets and a duvet cover, and the perfect size for your bed.
You’ll instantly lose that wow effect if your duvet and sheets are not the right size for the bed. Both too small and too large will look out of place.
It’s also important not to work on an extremely low budget when it comes to your bed linen. Make sure it’s made of crisp and thick textiles to give your bed that luxurious, hotel-quality finish that feels as good as it looks.
Pay close attention to stretching the bed sheet so that you don’t have any exposed parts of the underlying mattress. A perfectly flat sheet also provides a crisp foundation for your duvet and sleeping pillows.
Similarly, make sure your duvet cover and pillowcases fit perfectly. There shouldn’t be any bulging parts or overly loose linens.
And before you move your attention to sleeping and decorative pillows, fold the bottom corners of the duvet cover at a 45-degree angle. It’s these simple things that add precision to make the bed even more inviting.
Step 2: Choose A Variety Of Pillows
Now that you have the perfect foundation, the first thing you should add is a variety of pillows.
You’ll obviously need sleeping pillows, and I recommend that you add those to the top of your bed first.

But the best way to add a bit of visual contrast to a rectangular bed frame, with a rectangular duvet, and rectangular pillows, is to look for throw pillows in different shapes.
The first option is to add square pillows in different sizes. Start with 22”x22” or 24”x24” pillows and even consider a few smaller ones so that you can stack and layer them (more on this shortly).
Alternatively, consider adding a long 54-inch bed or bolster pillow and then stacking a few smaller pillows behind it.
Step 3: Arrange Accessories In Layers
When it comes to arranging accent pieces on a bed, there are several different appearances that you can aim for. You can even consider switching things around a bit from week to week.

Classic Hotel Look
It’s a common favorite because it gives your bedroom that luxury hotel look that might even put you in a vacation mood.
Start with two or four sleeping pillows flat against the headboard; make sure you give them a good shake to get an even look and avoid any flat or bumpy areas.
Next, add three large 24x24 Euro pillows, and then another two smaller 22x22 pillows. Slightly stagger these pillows and even consider standing the two smaller ones with one of the corners pointing up.
Finally, add a long bed pillow to complete the hotel look.
Cozy Layered Look
This is possibly the easiest layout to achieve with just a few extra decorative pillows.
Start with two large 24x24 square pillows and place them against the headboard. Then, stack four standard sleeping pillows in front of the square ones.
To achieve that cozy look, add another two decorative pillows on each side and make sure they’re varying sizes and smaller than 22x22.
You can also optionally add a long bed pillow to provide a clean line along the top third of the bed.
Luxury Style Look
This is the ultimate luxury look for achieving beautifully styled beds.
Start with three large 24x24 Euro pillows placed against the headboard. Then add two king-size pillows, followed by two sleeping pillows stacked in front.
Now it’s time to layer in the decorative pieces, and I suggest having at least three different sizes, patterns, and colors. Layer these in front of the sleep pillows and then complete the look with a long bed pillow centered in front of them all.
Step 4: Experiment With Patterns And Colors
One of the best ways to achieve a more interesting look is by choosing slightly contrasting colors and patterns in the pillows you choose.

Aim to use with a consistent color palette, but incorporate different shades between the fitted sheet, duvet cover, and pillows.
You can also choose to add one or two smaller accent pillows in a bold color that add more contrast without completely diverting from the overall style.
A final touch would be to place a decorative weighted blanket to the end of the bed to further add visual contrast.
Step 5: Keep It Functional
For most of the day, your bed will now look like it was taken straight out of an interior design magazine, but you also have to keep the functional aspect in mind.
That means having a convenient way to store the accent pillows when it comes to bedtime.
To avoid having them stacked in the corner of your bedroom, making everything look messy, consider adding a basket or blanket box to the end of your bed.
