What Is It
A Material Born, Not Made
Spalted maple begins its life the way any tree does, and then something remarkable happens. As the wood begins its natural decay, fungi move through it, leaving behind dark, winding lines and soft washes of color that no craftsman could replicate and no two boards could ever share. The result is a grain pattern that reads like a map of the forest itself, equal parts wild and refined.
We do not consider this a flaw to correct. We consider it a gift to preserve. Once the spalting reaches its most beautiful stage, the wood is carefully dried and stabilized, locking in the pattern before it can progress further, and preparing it for a long life as furniture rather than firewood.
Not all marble in furniture is equal
Sourcing and Usage
The way stone is sourced, cut, and finished changes everything about how it performs and how it ages. Gabby approaches marble as a design partner, not a surface material. Each piece is designed around the stone's natural qualities — its weight, its cool depth, its tendency to catch and hold light. The result is furniture that feels genuinely considered, not simply capped with stone for effect.
The variety of marble used across Gabby's collection includes creamy white Carrara, warm-veined emperador tones, and cooler grey varieties. Each type creates a very different atmosphere in a room. Our design consultants can walk you through which tones work best with your existing palette.

Carrara
Sourced from the mountains of Tuscany, Carrara offers soft white with whisper-thin grey veining.
Emperador
Rich in color and character, Emperador is a Spanish brown marble distinguished by its warm mocha tones and striking network of cream and white veining.
Volakas
A Greek marble prized for its bright white surface and fine, warm-toned veining, Volakas brings a sense of lightness and calm to every application.
Living with Marble
Daily Care
Wipe marble surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners — citrus, vinegar, and most standard surface sprays will etch the stone over time. For everyday use, a microfiber cloth and warm water is all you need.
Sealing
Most marble furniture pieces from Gabby arrive with a factory-applied sealant. We recommend resealing marble surfaces annually, or more frequently in high-use areas like dining tables. A quality penetrating stone sealer takes minutes to apply and provides meaningful protection.
Spills
Blot, never wipe. Marble is porous before sealing and, even after, benefits from prompt attention to spills. Red wine, coffee, and oil are the materials to be most attentive about. A quick blot and a light rinse with water handles most situations.
